At a time when security of one’s personal and business data is continually in question, isn’t it good to know that ServiceU has taken extreme steps to ensure the security of your organization’s data? In addition to making sure we offer the best services, support, and training to our customers, we also want to guarantee that every bit of your valuable data—from registration and giving details, to event information, to ticketing records—is protected at all times.
In late 2006, Microsoft recognized ServiceU as a leader in the online event software industry for protecting customer data with SQL Server 2005 Database Mirroring. Microsoft published a customer solution case study on ServiceU, which can be found here for further reading. Our goal in this article is to merely boil it all down and share with you just a few of the ways that ServiceU is protecting your data, even while you sleep.
Because we are committed to ensuring the high availability of your data, and wanted to continue this commitment as we grow as an organization, both in the services we offer and customers we serve, we realized that we needed to deploy a mirror of our database. This database mirror continually backs up data. What this means, in simple terms, is that all the data you create and store online for your organization needs to be backed up in multiple places to make sure that it’s always there when you need it.
Because you are trusting us with your information, it is our duty to take utmost care to secure it with the latest technology advancements. Through the implementation of Microsoft SQL 2005 Servers, ServiceU has been able to:
- Employ geographic redundancy to help ensure that our users worldwide can always access their ServiceU solution, even in the event of a natural or man-made disaster.
- Scale our technology needs to support current and future growth
- Reduce scheduled downtime during database maintenance through database indexing
- Provide transparent upgrades of our databases to enable use of existing stored procedures
- Enhance our own developer productivity as we create and maintain applications
Geographic Redundancy
“We recognize that our business is delivered completely over the
Internet, and if we were to have an infrastructural problem it would
adversely affect the customer’s experience, so we are very serious
about minimizing downtime, says David P. Smith, Chief Technical
Officer at ServiceU. “We take every measure that is feasible to
ensure uptime, so after we opened our disaster recovery data center
in Atlanta last year, we began moving forward with plans to mirror
our databases to that site.”
ServiceU was able to mirror its database to the Atlanta site,
making all data “geographically redundant” and thereby keeping all
customer data duplicated in an additional location.
